Today on Capitol hill Aquaman appeared before a house sub-committee investigating the failures surrounding the insufficient response to hurricane Katrina, specifically action related to the greater New Orleans Metropolitan area. As cleanup efforts are still under way in Louisiana and Mississippi, the American public is searching for answers among the destruction. The heir to atlantis maintaining his innocence with the direct alibi of tending to "matters of the sea" faced a salvo of questions regarding chain of command, responsibility and reaction in times of crisis. Sen. Mcleary assuaged that the alleged failures came in part due to flagging popularity of the super hero which has developed into an increasing disregard for land dwellers which is in fact a gross failure of duty. Aquaman briefly lost his composure when Sen. Alstott produced a document that appears to equate that Aqualad was responsible for that portion of the hemisphere, and went on to ask if their recent falling out over the "tempest-gate" naming fiasco had anything to do with poor leadership. With Aqualad (tempest) conspicuously absent, the Water bearer had cited his own lack of action until four days after the disaster was in part to his physical distance to the disturbance. The new base of operations is equidistant to all points along the pacific rim, making it difficult to respond to the major crises of other oceans. Sen. Mcleary aired the notion that Aquaman would not have helped immediately regardless of distance, and cited the Tsunami that affected many Southern Asian countries as direct evidence because of its relatively close range to the said base of operations. A UN formed council is still under investigation of the failures of the Tsunami to which Aquaman is connected but under strict order not to comment. After the hearing Aquaman declined to speak to the press, and proceeded to the Potomac river where a chauffeured Seahorse awaited him. He could face a JLA court martial and up to 8 years in the phantom zone. |
