Need a hip but non-dress up lunch date? In the fix for fresh shellfish with a crisp and smooth white? Or just want to scarf that fat ass $10 mushroom burger? After you get that check on the 15th and have company to hunt for a parking space and eat somewhere while on the search, dine here. From interior feel to the main entree's aftertaste, this one's worth repeating. The obtuse form of the restaurant (its on the corner of two streets) and interior that has the rustic palette of a southwestern grill makes for pleasant scenery. You'll also find yourself navigating through a grid of compact square tables that have arranged clean white paper sheets as tablecloths. During great weather the window side tables for two are worth grabbing for, whether you're inside near the large panel windows or out on the Cafe's street seats. At nighttime looking out the glass to Market St. becomes a welcome wallpaper of yellow lights and literal reflections of the fast-paced kitchen, many loud conversations, and numerous faces that occupy the cafe during its exciting peak hours. I was there for a lunch meeting and a 10pm post-concert dinner. During the day stop I chose the burger I had much heard about and on the separate night I was treated to the grilled tuna and even sampled the wood plank roasted chicken. The burger is a must have as it has gained notoriety for its focaccia bread and large mushroom slabs, causing people to start online challenges versus the debatable San Francisco Burger Champion, Cable Car Joe's. Whereas Joe's grinds his own meat, Zuni may not match that food-fabricating trick, but nevertheless the Cafe burger is still tasty and ridiculously juicy to remain a valid contender. Other menu notables are definitely worth trying out. The oysters have had their repeated shot at internet acclaim and the supple roasted chicken that takes 45 minutes to roast, is well, damn worth roasting. The menu has alternating choices but the staples such as the burger, that white meat, and seafood, defend their stock each time ordered. Again, check the net since I'm not the only one who agrees. My friends who ordered the pastas noted their approval, and based on their strict culinary requirements, I kept this is mind. As for the night session at Zuni's, my grilled tuna dish with nuts and various greens I sadly ate too soon due to excitement. Take your time eating here. And when you're done, the shaved ice with chocolate is a sharp choice before you leave with the change which is only given to you in fresh bills and unblemished quarters. I wanted to use it to buy a quick drink at their own well-stocked bar but I was underage at the time. Zuni's is a city favorite from hipsters to families, so give it a try. Then walk back ten blocks back to your car's parking spot. The Zuni Cafe ()
